An old man during the War of the Ring, Gamling was still a commanding presence at the time of the Battle of the Hornburg. During the battle Gamling was the first to realize that Orcs had penetrated the Deep through its culvert, and he led the counter-attack himself.
The Royal Banner is, of course, a gigantic pain to paint and my Freehand skills are nothing to write home about. In this case, there isn't any magic sauce to how I got it done.
Just a quick post for Gamling, in response to a question on Reddit! Honestly, not my best painting and (under closer scrutiny now) I can see some bare metal which to me indicates A) I need to do another varnish and B) Gamling sees a lot of table time for me!
Indeed, I really like having Gamling on the table. He often allows me to spend at least 3 or 4 extra might in a game I wouldn't have otherwise had, which makes a big difference.- Dark Angels Green Contrast was the base for the flag. I applied probably 2 full coats.
- Then I painted some acrylic red around the edges very carefully. Did this in 2-3 coats to make sure of full coverage.
- Next I carefully painted Vallejo gold around the edges, doing my best to keep the lines even and... kind of succeeding.
- Finally came the dang horse. Honestly, that was pretty tough. I googled images of the banner and did my best to capture the representation of it, without worrying TOO much about the details. The banner is so folded and rippling that my rough painting skills MOSTLY get hidden!
